It’s a new year and everyone’s resolutions always have something to do with health, so why not set some health resolutions for your pet as well? Here are 10 reasons to see the vet this year!
1. Grooming
A lot of pet grooming can be done at home, but sometimes it gets out of hand and a vet needs to get involved. If your pet’s fur is matted or you have an unruly kitty who hates to get its nails clipped, bring them into the vet and we will help.
2. Dental Services
Keeping your pet’s teeth clean and healthy is important in order to avoid problems. Semi-annual teeth cleanings are recommended just like they are for humans! Phoenix Veterinary Center also offers dental and oral surgery options for cases that get extreme.
3. Spay/Neuter
Many people got new puppies and kittens as gifts this holiday season and part of being a responsible pet owner is getting your pets fixed, if you aren’t planning on breeding them and especially if they are outside animals. This cuts down on the number of stray and homeless animals there are and keeps your pet healthy.
4. Annual Check Up
You may wonder why you need to see a vet if your pet isn’t having any serious problems? Just like humans, pets also need an annual visit to the doctor just to make sure everything is doing what it needs to be doing. Annual check ups help prevent disease and illness.
5. Vaccines
Another factor that goes along with getting a new pet, but also part of being a responsible pet owner, is making sure pets are up to date on their shots. Whether your dog is a puppy or a senior, there are vaccines that we recommend to keep your dog healthy and happy. And remember, we don’t have a one size fits all vaccine regimen. 6. UTI/ Bladder Infections
Common in both dogs and cats, these infections can be very uncomfortable and need medical attention. Bring your pet in right away if you think they have either of these.
7. Upset stomachs
While upset stomachs in pets can sometimes pass with at-home remedies, if excessive and prolonged puking or diarrhea occurs it may be time to see a vet. They could have eaten something poisonous, have a virus/bacteria or even worse, a tumor of some kind, so it is best to be on the safe side and bring them into a vet.
8. Skin irritations
If your dog or cat is constantly scratching or itching, they may have some kind of skin irritation that needs to be treated. This can range anywhere from fleas, allergies, ringworm or lacerations that have become infected. Whatever it is, it’s surely uncomfortable for your pet and should be checked out.
9. Boarding
Although we do not have boarding facilities here, our affiliate hospital, University Animal Hospital does. This is a good way to know your pet is in good hands while you are away and will receive the love and attention they need!
